Herero Doll from Namibia, 8.5" cloth doll wearing traditional long dress and shawl.
This doll represents a Herero woman from Namibia wearing a typical flowing skirt, fitted bodice with leg-o-mutton sleeves, and a carefully constructed headdress.
Herero dress is derived from early 20th-century gowns worn by the wives of German missionaries during German colonization. The dresses evolved into colorful, voluminous, rounded dresses resembling healthy cows, and the headdress is shaped like a cow horn, reflecting the importance of cattle to the Herero people.
The authentic costuming of this doll has been approved by Museum Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Doll comes with stand.
