One loose oval cut Australian boulder opal, doublet cabochon. 5 x 7 mm, 2 ctw. The first three pictures are taken with a focused penlight. The last three are taken with sunlight which is why there is a shadow on the left. The dark lines on the right of the stone show the base of the doublet. This is when an opal is glued to a dark base to intensify the colors. It in no way diminishes the look or quality of an opal as you cannot see the base once it is mounted. Doublets are a common practice in the jewelry industry.
