GYOTAKU or "Fish Rubbing" originated in the mid 1800's as a Japanese Art form used by fishermen to record their captures. Original GYOTAKU paintings are considered thoughtful gifts and are believed to bring good luck to people.
In the South, alligator season only occurs 1 month per year, in September, making this a rare opportunity to obtain a piece of this artwork. Each painting is original, handmade, unique, and one-of-a-kind!
A non-toxic, water-soluble, acrylic ink is applied to a real alligator, then a canvas is spread to make the alligator impression. Multiple imprints can be made from the same alligator, but no two are ever exactly alike.
