An oil painting on canvas cloth of two row boats along a quiet river amid plenty of green trees and foliage. The visible painting measures 13 3/4 x 19. It is under glass in a gilt wood frame with elaborate repeating shell motifs. The overall frame dimensions are 19 1/4 x 24 3/8 x 2 1/4. The back board has the name of William Corkhill and his address in Corona, California. Underneath that is written The Mc Clellan Manufacturing Co. of Los Angeles. The painting itself is unsigned.
William Corkhill was born in England in 1856. According to an internet archive about the history of Riverside County, it is said that at an early age Mr. Corkhill was apprenticed to the painting and decorating trade. The McClellan Manufacturing Company was a furniture manufacturer which operated in Los Angeles in the 1920s and 30s.
