Vintage Burmese Kalaga Tapestry, likely made in the last half of the 20th century.
Kalaga is the traditional name for embroidered tapestries handmade in Myanmar/Burma, generally made from linen, silk, velvet, or cotton and embellished with embroidery, beads, sequins, and pearls.
Kalagas depict different stories, religious or auspicious symbols. Influenced by both Buddhist and Hindu traditions, often featuring Hindu Ramayana stories, Buddhist Jataka tales, elephants, peacocks, and Burmese symbols of purity.
