Vintage Sumba Ikat Hand Woven / Hand Dyed Traditional Tapestry from Indonesia.
Authentic hand-woven Ikat from Sumba, Indonesia. Size is approximately 57" x 52".
This is a tubular piece traditionally worn as a dress. It now has loops at the top for hanging as a tapestry. It could also be unstitched for use as a bed runner, though one side is several shades lighter than the other. Splitting it in two would provide more versatile use.
Ikat is a weaving style using a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye. The spectacular ikat of Sumba is made of hand-spun cotton, traditionally dyed with local plants (Kombu - indigo) and minerals.
