Found with antique books from an estate sale. Heritage Auctions provided an estimated value of $400-600 each if authentic and unsigned (see quote below).
The quote is attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, but the handwriting is suspected to be different. Emerson typically signed verses without quotation marks, which are present here. The signature above the verse is printed, indicating the verse may have been added later. Ink feathering suggests the quote was added at a later time.
Engraving on wove paper. The headshot and name are printed. Verse/quote underneath added later. Very rare pair.
